Deeper
I feel God carving deeper and deeper places within me. It's a strange and wonderful feeling. When I am in His presence I feel so full of Him. And when I return to the world it's as if the flood of Him recedes leaving a newly eroded landscape. I am different. I see parts of myself I never knew existed. Not all of them lovely...but all of them loved nevertheless.
I imagine I am like the Grand Canyon before it was grand. Just a vast desert of soul with a great powerful river flowing through it in a rainstorm. When the rain subsides and the river abates a little you begin to see the strata revealed. Dead things...fossils appear. But they tell you things about the world within that you could never have known otherwise. And then the rain comes again for the desert longs for it...crying out in a rasping voice,"I thirst!" So down it comes the holy deluge and it all begins again.
Deeper. Deeper. Drive your waters deeper into my heart. Erode the self, show me my sin and failure. Oh how gracious and lovely you are in the showing... "ah, it is true little one you are broken. But my love, my love, I long for you. I behold you, and in My eyes you are lovely. I shall make you lovelier still!"
And deeper you go, the mighty river, the hungry lover of hearts, the wild and raging waters of transformation. Wash over me till this baptism be complete and all my self is worn away like sand. Leave only the gaping canyon, the empty vessel, the emptiness that would be a void were it not for the song of welcome calling you to abide here.
You are infinite bounty and I am famished for your bread and wine. I must make more room to hold more of you. Oh empty me! Empty me! Carve me deeper still. Eradicate all but that ephemeral shell of being. Oh and then when you have poured yourself into me utterly, shatter that also so that I am endlessly lost in you.
